Parents Weekend 2010 is just around the corner, and whether you're looking to register for the event, book a hotel, check out local dining options in Claremont, browse a list of FAQs, orperhapsponder some convincing reasons to attend, the answers and more can be found a click away in the Parents Weekend gateway.
(A finalized schedule will also be available to participants at check-in, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 13.)
The event kicks off Friday, Feb. 12 with breakfast in Collins Dining Hall from 7:30 to 9 a.m. (cash price at the door is $7.50 per person), followed by a self-guided tour of the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden (located off- campus, north of The Claremont Colleges) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Activities throughout the weekendboth on and off-campus, including tours, presentations, and CMS athletics eventswill continue through Monday, Feb. 15. Parents are encouraged to participate in as many of the programs as possible and involve their students as well.
Highlights of this year's schedule include:
Saturday (Feb. 13):
Welcome program (College address by President Pamela Gann)
President's Reception, at the home of CMC President Pamela Gann
Student-Parent Dinner and Variety Show at the Ath, featuring an address by Carl Peaslee '11, followed by two performances by CMC theater group Under the Lights (Andie Wheatley and Wade Vaughn in Post Its, and Jennifer Baute and Will Kahn in Chocolate.)
Sunday (Feb. 14):
ROTC session and pistol shoot
Student Debate: "The U.S. should have a single payer healthcare system"
CMC Jeopardy
Special presentation by students from The Center for Human Rights Leadership
New this year: Meet the AuthorProfessor James Morrison will be reading from his recent book Said and Done. Limited quantities of the book will also be available for purchase at Huntley Bookstore.
