Kiplinger's Ranks CMC in Top 10 for Best Values in Private Colleges

Kiplinger's Personal Finance has named Claremont McKenna College among the top 10 Best Values in Liberal Arts Colleges, with a ranking of ninth. The list ranks those private colleges and universities that exemplify outstanding economic values and an exceptional education.

The selection reflects the rigor and quality of Claremont McKenna's academic programs as well as its outstanding track record of financial support to students, says Georgette DeVeres, associate vice president of admission and financial aid. More than 60 percent of CMC students receive grants, loans, or other forms of student aid, and the College's need-blind, meet-all-need admissions policy ensures that 100 percent of financial need is met. These policies, she says, ensure that the most outstanding students, regardless of financial need, can attend Claremont McKenna College.

Swarthmore topped the rankings at No. 1 among liberal arts colleges, while Caltech topped the list for universities.

To rate each school, Kiplinger's took into account admission rate, SAT or ACT scores, student-faculty ratio, four-year/five-year graduation rates, total costs, cost after need-based aid, aid from grants, cost after non-need-based aid, and average debt at graduation.
