International Festival Saturday, April 3

On Saturday, April 3, the 26th International Festival will bring the world's nation's and cultures together for a celebration of diversity. CMC is the lead college for International Place of The Claremont College and will host the event. The public is invited to attend from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.

More than 600 students from 87 nations attend The Claremont Colleges. Volunteers will prepare and offer food and beverages such as chicken satay, okonomiyake, bulgogi, and empanadas, pirozhki, dolme, Jerk chicken, spring rolls, and mango lassi.

Live entertainment will be on the stage from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., including Peruvian music, Scottish bagpiper, Thai martial arts, Indian classical dance, Arabian folk songs, and a Japanese women's rock group. A Chinese dragon will also roam through the crowd.

The African Hi-Life Band will be featured from from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Composed of seven musicians from Ghana and other West African countries, their African jazz dance style encourages the audience to join in by dancing along to the music. Formed in 1995, the band has toured throughout Europe, Canada, and the U.S.A.

Other special activities and booths will include the Konditori, offering desserts and coffee; international crafts; fresh flowers; and Trinkets and Treasures.

The Festival site is between 8th and 9th streets, between Mills and Columbia. Parking is usually available in lots on 9th Street, west of Claremont Boulevard. Admission and parking at the Festival are free; there are modest charges for food.

The event is sponsored by International Place of The Claremont Colleges, International Club, and Community Friends of International Students. For more information, please contact International Place at 621-8344.
