The 28th Annual International Festival of The Claremont Colleges will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2006, rain or shine, featuring dance and music performances, and food and beverages representative of all continents.
International Place of The Claremont Colleges coordinates the efforts of volunteer individuals and organizations to mount this major town-gown event, including Community Friends of International Students, the International Club, Pitzer International Programs, Claremont McKenna Activities Committee, Oldenborg Center at Pomona College, Rotary Club, University Club, the Associated Student Organizations of CGU, and CMC, Pitzer, Pomona, and Scripps colleges, and individual faculty, staff, and students from all Claremont campuses.
Entertainment from around the world will be on stage throughout the festival, featuring a 1 p.m. performance by Futa Toro, a professional West African dance group from the Los Angeles Music Center. Other performances include Bossa Nova guitar from Brazil; classical Indian dance; Palestinian and Israeli folk dance; Korean drums; music of the Balkans; Copali Copili; and Taiko drums.
Additionally, food will be available representing the countries of Africa, Australia, Brazil, and other regions of South America, as well as Mexico, Jamaica, Bulgaria, China, France, Germany, China and Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The Festival site is between Eighth and Ninth streetsbetween Mills and Columbia avenueson the campus of Claremont McKenna College. Parking is generally available in lots on Ninth Street, just west of Claremont Boulevard. Admission and parking are free (modest charges for food).
