Installation Dinner to Honor Professor Robert Faggen

Professor Robert Faggen will discuss Tree of Life of Burning Bush: Science and Myth in the Age of Politics during a special lecture on Thursday, Sept. 8, honoring his installation as the inaugural Barton Evans and H. Andrea Neves Professor of Literature. (More about the new, endowed professorship: http://www.claremontmckenna.edu/news/pressreleases/article.asp?article_id=551). The public portion of the program begins at 6:45 p.m. Seating is on a first-come basis.

Debate about whether and how to teach evolution continues to flare in the United States, with a great deal of concern from many about the stakes for humanity and freedom of intellectual exchange. Who has, or should have, authority in this debate?

Since arriving at CMC in 1988, Faggen has been interested in the interaction between science and faith in the modern world, particularly its expression in modern literature. His seminars on the topic have included one with Podlich Distinguished Visiting Fellow philosopher Leszek Kolakowski, as well as courses on Literature in the Age of Darwin andThe Bible.
