Inland Empire Economic Outlook Conference to be held Oct. 6

Claremont McKenna College announces that the Inland Empire Center for Economics and Public Policy, a new joint venture between two of CMC's highly regarded research institutes, the Rose Institute of State and Local Government, and the Lowe Institute of Political Economy, is partnering with the UCLA Anderson Forecast, to host the first CMC-UCLA Inland Empire Economic Forecast Conference. Hosted by Citizens Business Bank, the conference will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, CA.

The UCLA Anderson Forecast will be presenting the national and state economic outlooks, and CMC's Inland Empire Center will present the Inland Empire economic forecast. Attendees will receive the CMC Inland Empire/UCLA Anderson Forecast report containing economic and demographic data and analysis. Jerry Nickelsburg, senior economist at UCLA Anderson, and Marc Weidenmier, associate professor of economics at Claremont McKenna College, will offer their insights in the following areas.

Will the U.S. have a double dip recession? Is the national recovery different from the past? How soon will California return to full employment? Is California in for a jobless recovery? What will the shape of recovery be in the Inland Empire? How long will unemployment rates in the Inland Empire remain in double digits? What is the outlook for consumer spending in the region?

In addition to the forecasts, the conference features two expert panels discussing key topics relevant to the Inland Empire. The first panel focuses on Real Estate and Where the Industry is Headed. Expert panelists are:

Larry Kosmont, CEO, Kosmont Companies

Fred Cordova, Sr. VP, Colliers International

Randall Lewis '73, EVP, Lewis Operating Companies

In 2010, the CMC Inland Empire Center for Economics and Public Policy formed a partnership with the UCLA Anderson Forecast to provide Inland Empire leaders with expert analysis of the region's unique political and economic landscape. This affiliation combines the authority of the UCLA Anderson Forecast with the specialized knowledge of the Inland Empire Center, producing high quality evaluation of political and economic developments in the Inland Empire. This new venture takes advantage of leading economists and political scientists in Claremont, and expands the reach of the UCLA Anderson Forecast.

The conference is being hosted by Citizens Business Bank. Additional sponsors include: Oremor Automotive Group, County of San Bernardino, MuniSerivces, City of Ontario, City of Riverside, Colliers International, and San Manuel.
