Inauguration Activities Planned

The Washington D.C. Chapter of the Claremont McKenna College Alumni Association invites locals and CMCers from around the world to attend an open house reception from 12:30 to 6 p.m. (EST) on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at CMC's Washington Program offices, in celebration of the Presidential Inauguration.
More than 150 CMC alumni and friends are expected to attend the event, located near Farragut North and Farragut West Metro stations. Light hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served.

In addition to the Washington, D.C., event, the Diversity Committee at CMC invites the CMC community to attend a live telecast of the Swearing-in Ceremony beginning at 9 a.m. (PST) at the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum. Light refreshments will be available beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The Office of the Chaplains also is hosting a dinner and celebration from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at McAllister. Included will be video highlights from the inaugural ceremonies, and remarks and a discussion with CMC Associate Professor of Religious Studies Gaston Espinosa, author of Religion and the American Presidency (2008). The evening also will include an interactive activity as well as a ceremony of unity.

The presidential oath of office, which takes place on the steps of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., will be followed by President-elect Barack Obama's inaugural address, and the presidential inauguration parade, along Pennsylvania Avenue.
Officials expect record-breaking crowds for the inauguration ceremonies, themed Renewing America's Promise.
