I-Place Hosts Annual Banquet, Nov. 20

International Place of The Claremont Colleges will host its 30th annual International Banquet at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, with a seven-course feast and a stage-show featuring a Japanese choir, Burmese and Latin American dances, the Guzheng (Chinese zither), folk songs, and African drums.

I-Place director Charlene Martin expects a sell-out crowd of more than 500 students and members of the community. "The banquet is a wonderful opportunity for people from diverse cultures and nations to sit down for dinner together," she says. "The atmosphere is joyful as we all share food and entertainment from around the world. One feels that this is the way we want our world to be."

International studentsled by co-presidents, May Zin '06, and Praween Dayananda (POM)are planning and preparing the banquet, which this year features a main course from Japan and Korea, appetizers from the Middle East and Latin America, a soup from Turkey, and desserts from Europe.

The banquet will be held in the McConnell Dining Room on the Pitzer College Campus (located on Ninth Street, between Claremont Boulevard and Mills Avenue).
