The Grachan Moncur III Evolution Big Band will perform at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26 in Mary Pickford Auditorium. The concert, co-sponsored by The Family of Benjamin Z. Gould Center for Humanistic Studies and the American Jazz Institute-CMC Oral History Project, is free and open to the public.
The 12-piece ensemble features Tim Hagans (trumpet), Bennie Maupin (tenor saxophone), and drummer Peter Erskine. Trombone master Moncur hails from the post-bop, free-bop jazz era of the 1960s. His first two recordings, Evolution and Some Other Stuff, are considered classics.
