Award-winning filmmaker Spike Lee made his first area appearance on Sept. 30 in a CMC lecture held at Bridges Auditorium and sponsored by the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum, the Dean of Students, and Associated Students of Claremont McKenna College. Lee's lecture drew more than 2,200 guests and covered topics ranging from Enron to filmmaking, from college testing to Washington politics. Lee said he was drawn to filmmaking after realizing that "the vitality of the African American experience was not evident on screen. For the most part," he said, "the cupboard was bare."
