Forever Plaid

Founding CMC Trustee Donald McKenna would have had a great time celebrating the 95th anniversary of his birth on Oct. 10, with the CMC community pulling out all the stops, not to mention its best plaids, to honor his memory.

Festivities begin at noon at the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum with revival of Mr. McKenna's favorite "Words Worth Luncheon." In keeping with tradition, the only "ticket" required for admission is an interesting word, fully researched, of course. Luncheon guests are expected to share their word's history, derivation, meaning and usage. Hosted by grandson Bruce McKenna, the luncheon will include the College's current McKenna Scholars and other students, faculty, and staff.

Evening snack time in Collins Dining Hall will be transformed into a plaid birthday bash, complete with cake and ice cream, and, for every student wearing plaid, the chance to win a raffle prize of two tickets to Scotland. "What the evening may lack in dignity, it will more than make up for in fun," said John Faranda, vice president of alumni relations and director of development.
