Concerts To Feature Inner Mongolian Music

A delegation of musicians from the College of Arts, Xiaman Universityled by nationally renowned Professors Du Zhaozhi and Su Li will perform music, dance, and songs influenced by Mongolian culture at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5 at Balch Hall on the Scripps College campus. The performance then continues the following morning at 11:45 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 6 when the artists visit CMC for a lunchtime recital at the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum.

The concerts include Mountain Songs that have recently been recognized as national treasures by the United Nations and will feature performances by Su Li (cello), Su Jie (piano), Zheng Shaofang and Suoyila (sopranos), Du Zhaozhi (composer), Chen Wei (dancer), and QiQigama (Mongolian folksinger).

This visit is co-sponsored by the Scripps College music department, Pomona College, and The Family of Benjamin Z. Gould Center for Humanistic Studies.
