CMS finishes record year with three Athenas winning NCAA track and field titles

The final day of the 2017-18 athletic year came to a dramatic close on Saturday for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Three Athenas won individual national championships in track & field, and the team placed fourth at the NCAA Division III Championships for the highest finish in program history.

Emily Bassett ’18 (hammer throw), Bryn McKillop SC ’18 (5000 meters), and Tyra Abraham SC ’18 (100 meters) were the individual national champions Saturday for the Athenas. Abraham also placed fourth in the 200 meters and teamed up with Sabrine Griffith ’19, Grace Pratt ’21, and Nirel JonesMitchell ’20 to place eighth in the 4x100 meter relay.

In tennis, Jack Katzman ’21 finished as the national runner-up in men’s singles, concluding an impressive freshman season.

The day began for CMS with Thomas D'Anieri ’20 competing in the finals of the 3000 meter steeplechase, and he placed 13th.
