CMS Athletics Primed for
D-III Championships This Week

The spring sport season for the NCAA Division III Championships has begun and CMS is involved in multiple championships. CMS will host competitions in women's lacrosse and men's tennis this week while softball will travel to Iowa to compete and one individual began play today at the men's golf championships.
The women's lacrosse team (15-2), which recently won the inaugural SCIAC Championship, will host Endicott College (16-4) in a first-round game at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12. This game marks only the second time that an NCAA tournament lacrosse game has been played in the state of California. The game will take place on Pomona College's soccer field. Entrance to the game will be through the gate on Mills Avenue, by the south end of the Pomona track. General admission is $3, and $2 for seniors, children, and students with ID. (The first 100 CMS students will be admitted free.) The winner of this game will play the winner of the Cabrini College at College of New Jersey game at 2:30 p.m. (Eastern) on Saturday, May 15 in Salisbury, Md.
The men's tennis team will host second- and third-round matches Thursday through Friday, May 13-14, at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. The Stags (20-5), ranked third nationally and No. 1 in the West Region, will face Whitman College (20-4), ranked No. 22 nationally and No. 6 in the West, at 11 a.m. In the other match, Cal Lutheran (19-2), ranked No. 4 nationally and No. 2 in the West, takes on UC Santa Cruz (14-7), ranked No. 6 nationally and No. 3 in the West, at 2 p.m. The winners will play at 1 p.m. on Friday, with the victors advancing to the NCAA Team Championships in Oberlin, Ohio, on May 25.
On the first day of the men's golf championships in Hershey, Penn., CMC sophomore Tain Lee shot a two-under 69 to take the clubhouse lead with additional players still on the course. Lee, the SCIAC Player of the Year (http://www.cmsathletics.org/sports/spring/mgolf/2009-10/news/0406aow), is competing in the championships as an individual for the second straight year. Live scoring is available at: http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/leaderboards/player/static/player1853.html.
After a school record 33 regular season wins, the softball team was selected for the 60-team NCAA Championship field for the second consecutive season on Monday. CMS (33-8) will open the double-elimination regional against Central College (30-12) at 2 p.m. (Central) on Thursday, May 13. The regional is being hosted by Simpson College in Indianola, IA.
CMS, the fourth seed in the eight-team regional, will face either top-seeded Linfield College (35-5) or eighth-seeded University of Chicago (24-13-1) on Friday, at either noon or 4 p.m., depending on the results of the Thursday games. Additional games on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday are possible depending on the results of the Thursday and Friday games.
