CMC Student-Athlete Kristin Lim Selected as the Honda Award Nominee in NCAA Division III Tennis

CMC student-athlete Kristin Lim has been selected as the Honda Award nominee in NCAA Division III tennis by the Collegiate Women Sports Awards Program. Lim is the first CMS/CMC student athlete to receive this recognition which was given for her outstanding athletic achievements as well as her excellent example of leadership, academic excellence and community involvement.
Lim is one of 11 recipients of this honor, each recognized in a different sport, from Division III schools around the nation. Nominees are chosen by coaches' panels, All-America committees or the athlete's finish at their respective national championship.
As the Division III Honda Awards nominee in tennis, Lim is now in the running to win the Division III athlete of the year award to be announced in June 2012.
Lim ended her Fall 2010 season undefeated in Division III singles competition, went on to win the Women's Singles Title and finished runner-up in doubles at the USTA-ITA Division III Small College National Championships. In 2011, she led her team to a Spring Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference co-championship and finished the season with a 34-3 singles record. Her only Division III loss came after she was forced to retire after spraining her ankle while leading 6-2, 4-4 in the match. Lim is the first CMS female athlete to win the NCAA Division III Singles Title and was also named a NCAA Division III All-American.
Prior to coming to CMC as a sophomore, Lim played #1 doubles and rotated between #1 and #2 singles as a freshman at Cornell University. While there, she won the 2009 Cornell Fall Outdoor Invitational "A Division" Doubles Championship and was a finalist in the "A Division" Singles Championship. In high school, Lim won the Hawaii State Doubles Championship as a freshman, and subsequently won three State Singles titles. She was named Team Captain, two-time National Tennis All-American, Punahou High School Female Athlete of the Year, Athletic Award of Honor, four-time First Team All-Conference player, Most Inspirational Player and was later inducted into the Hawaii State Hall of Honor.
Off the court, Lim currently holds a cumulative GPA of 3.8/4.0 and is on track to graduate from CMC in May 2013 with a B.A. in Economics with a Finance Sequence. She is a member of the Hawaii Club and participated in the CMC Senate during Fall semester 2010.
