CMC Sets Race for the Cure Team

The Claremont McKenna Activities Committee (CMAC) is organizing the College's first team in the annual Race for the Cure, Feb. 26 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, benefiting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Keri Sanchez, a team organizer and CMS women's soccer coach, says she is encouraged by the number of CMCers who have either already joined the growing team, or have shown interest in participating. "It is a great cause," Sanchez says. "Many people are affected by cancer and this is just a great way to feel you are helping fight the battle."

All levels of energy, experience, and stamina are welcome. Friends and family of CMC faculty and staff also may join. Entry fee is $25 per person, and $15 for youth ages 17 and under, and for seniors over the age of 60. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Participants may choose from either a coed 5K run at 9:30 a.m., or a coed 5K walk at 9:40. A Jazzercise event as well as a non-competitive one-mile fun run also will be hosted later in the morning.

Race for the Cure is the Los Angeles County affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and raises funds to support the fight against breast cancer. The Komen mission is to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment. The primary goal of the Affiliates is to provide funding for programs that will assist women who are medically underserved and uninsured to get necessary services.
