Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ginger Miles as the head coach of the CMS Women's Lacrosse Team and instructor of physical education.
Lacrosse has been a constant throughout Miles' education and career. While studying government at the University of Virginia, Miles was a goalkeeper for the Cavaliers. She helped her team win one National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship (2004) and two Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) championships in 2004 and 2006. Miles earned ACC All-Tournament Team and All-ACC Academic Team honors in 2006 and is ranked seventh in all-time career saves and tied sixth for season saves.
Miles' athletic philosophy will serve her well in her new coaching position at CMC. "My overarching goal in all my lacrosse pursuits has always been to give back to the game that has given me so much," said Miles.
Post-graduation, Miles served as an admissions counselor for her alma mater and coached lacrosse at the high school, club and college levels. During her time as assistant coach at Western Albemarle High School, the team was named 2007 Jefferson District Champions and 2008 Regional and District Champions. As a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Virginia, Miles worked with the goalkeepers.
Mike Sutton, CMS Director of Athletics, believes that Miles will be a good fit at CMC, as he notes, "We believe that Ginger, whose vision for our program encourages outstanding academic achievement with highly competitive lacrosse, will bring the best of both worlds to Claremont. She recognizes that our student-athletes desire to be as successful in lacrosse as they are in the classroom and she understands the balance necessary to excel in both worlds."
