Eight of the nine research institutes of Claremont McKenna College will host an open house designed to introduce students to research, fellowship, and employment opportunities at the Institutes. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to participate. The open house will be on Friday, October 6, 2000 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
The Family of Benjamin Z. Gould Center for Humanistic Studies promotes the study of public affairs issues by scholars from the fields of literature, philosophy, and history. The Gould Center is led by Professor Ricardo Quinones, the Josephine Olp Weeks Professor of Comparative Literature and is located in Roberts Hall South, Room 203.
The Keck Center for International and Strategic Studies supports the study of critical issues in world affairs at CMC, sponsoring lecture series, fellowships, visiting scholars, research associates, conferences, publication of research monographs, and student internships. The Keck Center is led by Professor Chae-Jin Lee, the BankAmerica Professor of Pacific Basin Studies, and is located in Pitzer Hall, Room 104.
The Kravis Leadership Institute (KLI) promotes the interdisciplinary study of leadership and is the driving force behind the leadership studies sequence at Claremont McKenna College. KLI is led by Professor Ron Riggio, the Henry R. Kravis Professor of Leadership and Organizational Psychology and is located in the ground floor of Seaman Hall.
The Lowe Institute of Political Economy promotes applied economic analysis that can provide valuable insights into international and national public policy issues. The Lowe Institute is led by Professor Sven Arndt, the C. M. Stone Professor of Money, Credit, and Trade, and is located in Adams Hall, Room 206.
The Reed Institute for Decision Science is celebrating its 25th anniversary emphasizing applied mathematics and practical experience in the education of students interested in business and public policy. The Reed Institute is led by Professor Janet Myhre, the Dengler-Dykema Distinguished Service Professor, and is located on the second floor in Adams Hall.
The Roberts Environmental Center sponsors on-going research into issues affecting the environment and is the focus of an innovative interdisciplinary major at CMC, The Environment, Economics, and Politics (EEP). The Roberts Center is led by J. Emil Morhardt, Roberts Professor of Environmental Biology, and is located in the Keck Science Center.
The Rose Institute of State and Local Government tackles the thorny issues of political representation and ethnic change in the State of California. The Rose Institute is led by Professor Ralph Rossum, the Henry Salvatori Professor of American Constitutionalism, and is located in Adams Hall, Room 100.
The Salvatori Center for the Study of Individual Freedom in the Modern World is the oldest of Claremont McKenna College's research institutes. Here professors and students seek to understand, and, if possible, to bolster, the moral, political, and intellectual underpinnings of democracy in America. The Salvatori Center is led by Charles Kesler, professor of government, and is located in Pitzer Hall, Room 112.
