The Claremont Colleges will kick-off a month-long series of activities and events honoring Cesar Chavez, beginning with a poster signing and exhibit, L.A. in the Zoot Suit Era, with Chicano artist Ignacio Gomez, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 24 at Pomona College's Smith Campus Center Gallery. The exhibit will remain open from noon to 7 p.m., Wednesdays through Sundays, through April 13.
The following afternoon, on Tuesday, March 25, Pitzer College will host an exhibit featuring Gomez's work (Ignacio Gomez: A 30-Year Retrospective) from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Salathe Gallery, McConnell Center. That exhibit will remain open from noon to 5 p.m., daily, through April 8.
Included in the month-long calendar of campus events, scheduled through Thursday, April 24, are events on the CMC campus, starting with a musical tea with Mariachi Serrano de Claremont from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 31 in the Athenaeum Courtyard.
The College will also host its own poster signing and reception with artist Ignacio Gomez from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2 in the Athenaeum lobby. That exhibit will remain open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., March 31 through April 4.
Also on Wednesday, April 2 at CMC, the Athenaeum will host a "Concert and Conversation" with composer, musician, singer and actor Daniel Valdez, star of the Zoot Suit play and film. The public portion of the program begins at 6:45 p.m., with free seating on a first-come basis.
