In the Monday, March 30 broadcast, Nieto is shown communicating through EyeMax, a new technology in medical research that uses a camera to track his eyes as they move along a computer monitor. After successfully raising $18 million for ALS research through the Augie's Quest foundation, Nieto, and his wife, Lynne, also announced a new goal: $30 million in five years. In addition, the televised update reports that Nieto is working on a second book.
His first, Augie's Quest, One Man's Journey from Success to Significance, co-authored by T.R. Pearson, tells the story of a fitness pioneer whose ALS diagnosis at the age of 47 leads him to create a new and revolutionary model for private medical research and development. In partnership with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Nieto set up the foundation, Augie's Quest, and lab, to coordinate and oversee ALS research and testing across the globe.
