A time of changes and new opportunities

CMCAA President's Message

As you receive this edition of the CMC Magazine, alumni from classes ending in ’1 and ’6 will be contemplating their return to campus for Alumni Weekend (April 29-May 1)*. These alumni and any others who return to Claremont McKenna College will see many positive changes.

The Roberts Pavilion, named in honor of CMC trustee and alumnus George R. Roberts ’66 P’93, is rapidly emerging as a spectacular new fitness and events center for CMC and the athletic center for the CMS intercollegiate, intramural, and physical education programs. Many dormitories have also been renovated and remodeled, and there is even a new Claremont Hall.

The Pioneers/Women & Leadership Alliance will have hosted its 5th annual Women & Leadership Workshop and sponsored multiple seminars and Athenaeum speakers. (The Pioneers are women who enrolled at Claremont Men's College.) The Pioneers continue to impact CMC, and support for this exceptional program is stronger than ever!

The impact of the four-year-long drought and new water restrictions has changed the physical appearance of the grounds; you'll see more mulch than grass around dorms and academic buildings.

These and many other changes reflect the evolution of our college. Our alumni population has surpassed the 14,000 mark and I invite you to return to campus to see both the physical changes and the opportunities the CMC community has to share in this amazing institution that we have been privileged to know.

Please join me in sharing your time and talent with each other, with the current students, with the faculty, and with the leadership of the college. And don’t forget: This year’s Euromeet will take place June 17-19 in Amsterdam. Mark your calendars! Respectfully submitted, Sue Matteson King '85 P'18 susanmking@optonline.net

*except for the class of 2011, which convenes June 3-5.
