Stags Soccer Sweet Again

The CMS men’s soccer team matched its deepest NCAA Tournament run since 1985 by winning a regional hosted by Colorado College this past fall. The 2025 Stags joined the 2019 squad as recent regional champions who advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16. They did so in dramatic fashion, as Rafael Otero ’25 scored in the closing minutes of overtime to give the Stags a 2-1 win over No. 5 Colorado College before they eventually fell 1-0 at No. 3 Middlebury on a late goal. CMS also had a dominant win on its home field in the SCIAC Championship, getting off to a 4-0 lead at halftime before defeating Chapman 5-1 behind two goals from John Laidlaw ’26. Otero earned both All-America and Academic All-America honors after finishing the year with 13 goals and six assists, leading CMS to a 16-4-3 final record.

A Run for The Ages

Justin Edwards ’25 of the CMS football team had a memorable Senior Day in leading CMS to a 41-24 win over Cal Lutheran. Edwards came into the day with 3,782 career rushing yards, 218 shy of the 4,000-yard milestone and 262 short of the program’s career record. Not only did he pass both those marks, but he also broke the single-game rushing record by 50 yards, finishing the day with 324 yards and three touchdowns. Edwards ended his career with 4,314 yards and 55 rushing touchdowns, breaking the old record for touchdowns in a career by 17. He also earned first-team All-Region honors from D3football.com, the fourth time in his career that he earned a spot on one of the all-region teams.

NCAA Tennis Back at Biszantz

The Biszantz Family Tennis Center will serve as the host site for the NCAA Division III Tennis Championships from May 19-27 for the sixth time since the facility opened in 2009. The last time CMS hosted in 2018, the Athenas earned the program’s first national title. The Stags were ranked No. 2 in the preseason poll after finishing as the runner-up last year, while the Athenas were ranked No. 3—and both hope to be challenging for the title on their home courts.
