CMS fall sports teams all had successful seasons in 2016. Women’s cross country and men’s cross country won its respective Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships. The Athena volleyball team finished as regular season conference co-champions, while the women’s soccer program won the SCIAC Postseason Tournament and set a program record for wins in a season. Men’s soccer had a five-game improvement in the win column over 2015 and made the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. The men’s water polo team earned the third seed in the SCIAC Championships, while the football team secured its third winning season in a row and won the Sixth Street Rivalry for the fourth-straight year. Of the seven fall teams, volleyball, women’s soccer and both cross country squads all advanced to the NCAA Championships as of mid-November
New Hall of Famers. On November 12, CMS Athletics inducted the CMS Alumni Association Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2016 at CMC’s Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum. The Class of 2016 included three Claremont McKenna College graduates Billy Nash ’75–Football; Regina Schafnitz ’01–Volleyball (right, bottom); Michael Sutton ’76–Men’s Swim/Water Polo, CMS Coach and Director of Athletics (left, bottom) and one inductee from Harvey Mudd College Katie Ray ’02 – Track & Field.
