Psychology

Welcome to Psychology at Claremont McKenna College!

Psychology Faculty

Psychologists study how others think, feel, and behave. The CMC Psychology curriculum prepares students to use psychological concepts and methods in everyday life. Students receive a breadth of knowledge and hands-on experiences in applied, professional, and scientific psychology. Additionally, consistent with CMC's emphasis on public affairs, there are courses on the application of psychology to current social issues and public policy. Interdisciplinary sequences in Leadership, Legal Studies, and Neuroscience allow students to integrate Psychology with other majors such as Economics, Government, and the biological sciences so that they can develop the expertise that will expand their career options. Follow the links to the left to learn more about faculty research and teaching interests, course requirements, and research labs.

Because CMC is a member of The Claremont Colleges, faculty and students have the ability to utilize the combined resources of the colleges located here in Claremont, California. Students are strongly encouraged to and often develop close, consultative relationships with faculty members. So, if you think that a major in Psychology might be right for you, stop in and talk with our stellar faculty.

Psychology at CMC: Opportunities Abound

Think you have to be at a big research university to work closely with professors on cutting-edge projects? That's not the case at CMC, especially when it comes to psychology. Compared to other liberal arts colleges, CMC's psychology department is fairly large, and covers most different sub-categories of the field. It's also the case that every psych professor has a lab, and meets weekly with student research assistants, who are given invaluable opportunities to be involved and entrusted with all aspects of a research project, including data gathering, analysis, article and journal writing, and poster presentations around the country.

PSI CHI Logo National Honors Society in Psychology
Psi Chi is the National Honor Society in Psychology. Every Spring, CMC Psi Chi officers determine eligibility for membership and invite these students to apply for lifetime membership.

Accelerated MA Degree Program in Psychology
CMC & Claremont Graduate University (CGU) offer psychology & neuroscience majors an accelerated MA degree in psychology from CGU 1 year after receiving the B.A. degree from CMC.
