Student Opportunities

We encourage all students with an interest in economics to participate in the programs of the Lowe Institute of Political Economy. Our programs include: Baker-Lowe Scholarship, faculty-student research projects, internships, a public lecture series at the Athenaeum and academic conferences.


Research Analysts

The Lowe Institute of Political Economy is seeking student research analysts for the 2014-15 academic year. The students will work closely with faculty members at CMC. Specific responsibilities include preparing and analyzing databases, programming, web site management, and administrative work for the Institute. In addition, students will be involved with faculty on a variety of empirically-based research projects.

Students are expected to work up to 5 to 10 hours per week. The rate of pay is $9 to $12 per hour.

Applicants should complete and submit the application with a 1) cover letter, 2) resume, 3) one page, analytical, writing sample and 4) an unofficial transcript to the Program Coordinator, Kelly Lockhart Spetnagel in Bauer 322.

Baker Lowe Scholar

The Baker-Lowe Scholars Program of the Lowe Institute of Political Economy is designed for advanced economics majors with interests in public affairs and political economy. Recipients of the awards will write a research paper on a selected public policy issue for presentation at the spring Board of Governors meeting. The institute provides research supervision and assistance. Recipients may receive $2,500 cash stipends or ½ course credit.
