Admission

The Office of Admission at the Robert Day School of Economics and Finance has two goals:

• to provide every prospective student with the best possible information to support an informed decision whether to apply
• to administer an admission process that invites and selects the most qualified of applicants for admission

Application Deadlines

The graduate admission committee will not review partially completed applications. Review of completed applications will occur as follows:

• Early decision (fall): November 2, 2012
• January 11, 2013
• February 8, 2013 (final deadline for all international students)
• March 8, 2013

Scholarships

The admission committee will include determination of merit-based scholarship awards as part of the admission decision. No additional application or information is required.

Prerequisites and expectations of the successful applicant:

Academic: This is designed to be a rigorous and intense one-year academic experience. As such, graduate coursework is built upon a foundation of the following undergraduate courses:

• Statistics
• Corporate finance
• Intermediate macroeconomics
• Intermediate microeconomics

Students who have not completed these courses upon submission of their application may be admitted conditional upon successful completion of the coursework prior to the start of classes in August.

Experience: While full-time work experience is not expected, applicants are expected to demonstrate a passion and basic understanding of the financial marketplace through internships and/or involvement with financial organizations.

Quantitative skills: Finance is an inherently quantitative discipline. While statistics is the only academic prerequisite, each successful applicant will demonstrate mastery of quantitative skills through coursework, experience and standardized test results. Scores of less than 90% on either the GMAT or GRE offer the admission committee cause for concern.

Language skills: Exceptional written and oral communication skills are required of leaders in the financial industry and are expected of successful applicants to this program. All students offered admission will demonstrate mastery of verbal skills through coursework, experience, standardized test scores, and an alumni interview arranged by the admission committee for all applicants being considered for an offer of admission. International students must achieve comparable success on the TOEFL (or IELTS) unless the majority of their highly successful undergraduate coursework was completed in English.
