Gerard Beenen
California State University, Fullerton

Dr. Gerard Beenen is an Assistant Professor of Management at the Mihaylo College of Business & Economics, California State University, Fullerton, where he teaches courses in organizational behavior, organizational change and team leadership. His research interests include workplace motivation and learning, and managerial interpersonal skills. His research has been published in Human Resource Management, Academy of Management Learning and Education, and the Journal of Computer Mediated Communication. His research has been funded by the Graduate Management Admissions Council and the National Science Foundation. He completed his Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior and Theory at Carnegie Mellon University. He also has an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and an MA from Fuller Seminary in Pasadena. Prior to his academic career, he was CEO of a cancer care center, co-founder of an internet software firm, and a management consultant with Bain & Company.

Dana Carney
Columbia University
 
Dana R. Carney is an Assistant Professor at The University of California, Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. Prior to her current appointment at Berkeley, Professor Carney was an Assistant Professor in the Management Division at Columbia University, Graduate School of Business. Broadly speaking, Professor Carney studies connections between body and mind. Her most recent work has focused on two aspects of the mind-body connection: (1) how humans reveal their thoughts and feelings through subtle nonverbal behaviors and how these subtle behaviors can profoundly impact others’ impressions, and (2) how human physiology (including sympathetic and parasympathetic arousal and hormones) affect risk taking, decision making, and behavior. Professor Carney publishes widely in psychology, business, political science, public health, and medicine. Her work is also featured often in the popular press—most recently in Time Magazine, the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, and on CNN. And she very recently received the National Science Foundation’s CAREER award in Social Psychology. Professor Carney received her PhD in Social Psychology from Northeastern University in 2005 and spent time as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Psychology at Harvard University.

Cary Cherniss
Rutgers University

Cary Cherniss is a Professor of Applied Psychology at Rutgers University.  He received his Ph.D. in Psychology from Yale University and specializes in the areas of emotional intelligence, work stress, leadership development, and planned organizational change. He has published over 60 scholarly articles and book chapters and seven books, including The Emotionally Intelligent Workplace with Daniel Goleman and Promoting Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace:  Guidelines for Practitioners with Mitchel Adler.  His research has been funded by such resources as the National Institute of Mental Health and the U.S. Office of Population Affairs.  Furthermore, he has consulted with many organizations in both the public and private sectors, including American Express, Johnson & Johnson, the US Coast Guard, AT&T, and the United States Office of Personnel Management.  He currently is the Director and Co-Chair of the Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organizations, a fellow of the American Psychological Association, and a member of both the Academy of Management and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.

Jay Conger
Claremont McKenna College
 
Jay Conger is the Henry Kravis Chaired Professor of Leadership at Claremont McKenna College in California. He is one of the world’s experts on leadership. You will see him quoted in the Wall Street Journal and other business periodicals analyzing people and trends in the executive suite and in the boardroom. In recognition of his extensive work with companies, Business Week named him the best business school professor to teach leadership and one of the top five management education teachers worldwide. As a management educator, he has worked with many organizations in his twenty-five year career. Author of over one hundred articles and book chapters and fourteen books, he researches leadership, organizational change, boards of directors, and the training and development of leaders and managers. He is one of a handful of authors who have  published multiple articles in the Harvard Business Review. His most recent books include Boardroom Realities (2009), The Practice of Leadership (2007), Growing Your Company’s Leaders (2003), Shared Leadership (2002), Corporate Boards: New Strategies for Adding Value at the Top (2001), The Leader’s Change Handbook (1999), Building Leaders (1999), and Winning’Em Over: A New Model for Management in the Age of Persuasion (1998). He has taught at the Harvard Business School, INSEAD (France), the London Business School, McGill University, and the University of Southern California. He has been awarded by the Center for Creative Leadership their prestigious H. Smith Richardson Fellowship for his research on leadership. His insights have been featured in Business Week, The Economist, The Financial Times, Forbes, Fortune, The LA Times, The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Training, The Wall Street Journal, and Working Woman.
 
Shane Connelly
University of Oklahoma

Dr. Shane Connelly is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Oklahoma. She earned her Ph.D. from George Mason University and has over 15 years of experience working with private industry and government organizations on applied research projects. Her research interests focus on leadership, emotions in the workplace, and ethical decision-making. She is also interested in ethical decision-making in organizations, particularly how to assess and train research ethics in various scientific domains. She has published numerous articles on leadership, emotions, and integrity and serves on the editorial boards of The Leadership Quarterly and Human Performance. She is a member of the American Psychological Association (Divisions 5 and 14), the American Psychological Society, the Academy of Management, and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. She is also a founding faculty member and serves on the governing board and executive committee of the Center for Applied Social Research.

Ceasar Douglas
Florida State University

Dr. Ceasar Douglas is the Chair and Jim Moran Associated Professor of Management. He teaches courses in Organizational Behavior and Strategic Management, and his research interests are in the areas of work team development, leadership, and leader political skill.  He received his Ph.D. in Management from the University of Mississippi. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Douglas worked 15 years as a manufacturing manager for Clorox Company, Sun Chemical, Hexcel Chemical, and Herman Miller. He serves on the Board of Directors of Southern Management Association (SMA), the editorial boards of the Journal of Management, The Leadership Quarterly, and The Journal of Leadership and Organization Studies.

Sean T. Hannah
West Point Academy

Dr. Sean Hannah is the Director of the Center for the Army Profession and Ethic (CAPE), Combined Arms Center, Training and Doctrine Command, located at West Point, NY. His areas of expertise are leadership development, leadership in extreme contexts, leader complexity, ethical and authentic leadership, character development, and leader identity, self-efficacy, and courage.  He received his PhD in Management from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a MBA and MPA from Syracuse University, and a Masters in Military Science from the Marine Corps University. He has published 43 papers, including Academy of Management Journal, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Organizational Behavior, and Business Ethics Quarterly. With over 25 years of military service, he served in numerous command and staff positions in Europe, Cuba, Panama, Southwest Asia, and the United States; served in combat during Desert Storm, Operation Sea Signal, and the Pentagon on 9/11 and has served at the Pentagon for two Chiefs of Staff of the Army.  He also sits on the editorial board of the Leadership Quarterly and the Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies.

Paulo N. Lopes
Catholic University of Portugal

Dr. Paulo N. Lopes holds a B.A. in Economics and Ph.D. in Psychology from Yale University and is a former Fulbright fellow. As Assistant Professor at the Católica-Lisbon School of Business and Economics, he teaches courses on Organizational Behavior in Executive Education, MBA and MSc programs. His research focuses on interpersonal and emotional skills and he has published more than 20 journal articles and book chapters on topics encompassing emotional intelligence, interpersonal interaction, the role of emotion in decision making, and implications for education and training. Formerly he was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of Surrey. Earlier in his career, he worked for 13 years in business and journalism, wrote a book, and co-directed two films, including an award-winning documentary..

Shaun Pichler
California State University, Fullerton

Dr. Shaun Pichler is an Assistant Professor of Management at the Mihaylo College of Business & Economics, California State University, Fullerton. He received his Ph.D. in Human Resource Management from Michigan State University. His research program focuses on fairness and support in organizations, and involves research on gender and diversity, performance management and appraisal, international HRM, and managerial interpersonal skills. He has published in such outlets as Behavior Research Methods, Human Resource Management, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Personnel Psychology, among others, and his research has been cited by the United States Congress, as well as a variety of practitioner outlets.

Darren C. Treadway
University of Buffalo

Dr. Darren Treadway is an Associate Professor of Organization and Human Resources at the University of Buffalo. His research interests include social influence processes in organizations with particular reference to organizational politics, political skill, leadership, bullying, and stigmatization.  His research has been published in leading journals such as Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Leadership Quarterly, Journal of Organizational Behavior, and Human Relations. Most recently, he co-edited the forthcoming Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology Frontier Series book Politics in Organizations:  Theory and Research Considerations with Gerald R. Ferris. His research has twice been awarded the Emerald Publishing as a Citation of Excellence as one of the top 50 business publications and has been awarded the Journal of Management Best Paper Award.  Prior to his employment with SUNY, he was on faculty at the University of Mississippi where he was twice named the Researcher of the Year.  His cumulative contributions earned him the 2009 SUNY at Buffalo Exceptional Scholar--Young Investigator Award.
