As an intern at VB, you are thrown headlong into the tech community. You learn a lot in a short period of time about the tech industry, online media, and journalism. You learn to write extremely fast, and you learn how to turn something boring and/or complicated into a compelling story. You also get the chance to interview interesting people and develop a valuable network of sources. It’s a strong foundation for anyone tech-obsessed looking to get into journalism or for any journalists looking to break into the startup world.
Previous interns have gone on to full-time jobs at Wired, the Wall Street Journal, and Buzzfeed, as well as VentureBeat itself.
Apply by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Send in a few links to blog posts or news clips, and tell us a little bit about yourself, what you like to write about, what blogs you read, and what your goals are. A resume and/or LinkedIn profile would also be great.

Curated., a bicoastal interior design firm founded in 2006, based out of our Santa Monica studio, is looking for an undergraduate/graduate student to help investigate the viability of a new and innovative business model we are in the early stages of developing by designing and executing a research assignment. We want to understand the key factors involved in precedents for services that businesses operate under a franchise model. This project would provide a student a very interesting opportunity to work with an actual client (Curated.) by offering us useful and relevant information for our business model.
Two key questions we would like the student to investigate include the following:
1. Can a service-based business, such as interior design, be run as a franchise model with a national network of qualified local practitioners, all sharing a common brand, promotions and operations protocol as well as centralized purchasing?
2. What type of research projects could help to test, validate and refine this idea of a franchised service business?
The primary revenue source for this type of business is service fees with supplemental revenue from the sale of marked-up furniture and accessories. Typically little or no inventory is held.
We anticipate the student to decide on a general brief of what type of information needs to be gathered and collected.
