Schulze Global is one of the only American private equity firms actively investing in Mongolia, where the firm maintains a fully-staffed office. Curated., a bicoastal interior design firm founded in 2006, based out of our Santa Monica studio, is looking for an undergraduate/graduate student to help investigate the viability of a new and innovative business model we are in the early stages of developing by designing and executing a research assignment. We want to understand the key factors involved in precedents for services that businesses operate under a franchise model. This project would provide a student a very interesting opportunity to work with an actual client (Curated.) by offering us useful and relevant information for our business model.
Two key questions we would like the student to investigate include the following:
1. Can a service-based business, such as interior design, be run as a franchise model with a national network of qualified local practitioners, all sharing a common brand, promotions and operations protocol as well as centralized purchasing?
2. What type of research projects could help to test, validate and refine this idea of a franchised service business?
The primary revenue source for this type of business is service fees with supplemental revenue from the sale of marked-up furniture and accessories. Typically little or no inventory is held.
