About The Campaign For Claremont McKenna
Investments In Intellectual And Institutional Growth: Students
Claremont McKenna has always attracted a special type of student: the man or woman who wants to make things happen. Enormously curious, CMC students are likely to ask, “What’s it good for?” when they make discoveries. Whatever their fields of future endeavor, they want to create impact.
CMC’s success is due largely to its ability to attract, retain, and develop bright students who lead, now and in the future. With that in mind, the College will make significant investments in our students in two important ways: improving financial aid and enhancing the student experience.
Financial Assistance
Only a few colleges and universities admit students without attention to family wealth and then cover all the student’s demonstrated need. CMC is one of them. Such largesse allows CMC to harbor the best students and the strongest leaders in the nation, a highly diverse group.
The College seeks endowments to fund need-based financial aid and merit scholarships.
The Student Experience
CMC students savor their experience. They meet faculty in Collins, they toss Frisbees in the sun, they run and play football, lacrosse, and soccer. They stretch their minds at the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum, a place of intellectual curiosity and artistic expression, where students’ academic and social lives merge. Students embark on faculty-led study trips, short intense journeys to foreign cities designed to expose a small group to intellectual challenges, usually in early summer.
Increasing numbers of students—near a majority—embark on at least one summer internship, in this country or abroad, for organizations both profit-centered and not-for-profit. In nearly all cases, the College funds their summer experience.
CMC students are also known for their community service, both local and global. They give back to the community and improve the lives of others; moreover, students who give back better understand the world and hone their skills as leaders.
To ensure that we are able to continue offering a rich environment outside the classroom, Claremont McKenna will establish a Student Leadership Development Fund that supports the Athenaeum, internships, student research, and a variety of student programs.
Claremont McKenna seeks $110 million for total investments in students.
