Investments In Intellectual And Institutional Growth: Faculty
From the beginning, only the best faculty would do if CMC were to generate tomorrow’s leaders. Founding President George C.S. Benson’s expansive vision succeeded in recruiting renowned faculty from Harvard, Stanford, the University of Chicago, and other top universities in the nation. This set the standard for the College’s pursuit of excellence, which has brought us into the top ranks of America’s liberal arts colleges.
Many of these early faculty were drawn to the College’s teacher-scholar model, wherein faculty not only teach but also continue their own scholarship. This model, still in effect, attracts professors who are committed to a continuing scholarly dialogue that helps shape contemporary thought rather than react to it.
To continue to recruit and retain world-class teacher-scholars and to maintain our 9:1 student-teacher ratio, CMC will endow new and existing chairs and make faculty research a high priority, second only to teaching. Gradual growth in the faculty will mirror gradual growth in the student body.
The College seeks $110 million in faculty endowed chairs, faculty research, and new curricula.
