Residential Life
At Claremont McKenna College, we provide our students with a comfortable environment in which living and learning are possible. Here are some basic facts about residential life and housing at CMC:
- Approximately 95% of CMC students live on campus.
- There are thirteen residence halls (each housing 60-109 students) and one student apartment complex (which houses 142 students).
- There are no fraternities or sororities at CMC.
- Each residence hall and the student apartments have a Resident Assistant, trained by the Dean of Students Office.
- New students are normally assigned to double rooms in the residence halls with a roommate. In subsequent years, students select their own housing.
- There are no "freshman dorms" at CMC. All our residence halls are composed of students from various class years.
- There are basically three different floor plans in the residence halls: rooms clustered into suites, rooms off a central corridor, or 8-story towers.
- Six residence halls and the student apartments are air-conditioned.
- Recreational equipment, study lounges, laundry facilities, and vending machines are available in the residence halls.
One key to understanding residential life and housing at CMC is to remember that the campus is relatively small. Walking from Wohlford Hall to Auen Hall (the two residence halls farthest from each other) usually takes no more than three minutes. Collins Dining hall is centrally located on campus, making it conveniently located for all residence halls. Each room is equipped with an ethernet connection and WiFi. Both are provided free of charge. After the first year at CMC, it is possible to live at another Claremont College through an exchange program. A few students take advantage of this each year, and it provides an opportunity to experience a different living environment while continuing to be a CMC student. If you are interested in this option, see the Director of Residential Life in Heggblade Center.
Residential Life and Housing at CMC is supervised by Eric Vos, and the Student Apartment Complex is managed by Jim Nauls. The Resident Assistants oversee the daily life of each community. Facilities and Campus Services at Story House is responsible for repairs, housekeeping, keys, and card access.
