Civil Rights/Title IX

Claremont McKenna College strives to maintain an environment which is free from discrimination and harassment, including sexual harassment and sexual misconduct. Sexual misconduct is a distinct form of sexual harassment. CMC maintains several policies related to discrimination, harassment and sexual misconduct which are found in the Guide to CMC’s Civil Rights Policies and Civil Rights Grievance Procedures. Individuals who believe they have experienced discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment and misconduct, hazing and stalking should review the Guide by clicking on the link above.

More information about Title IX and the College’s Civil Rights process is available on the Title IX webpage. For information about resources and options for responding to sexual misconduct please visit The Claremont Colleges sexual misconduct website.

In circumstances in which you believe you have been subject to discrimination, harassment, and/or sexual misconduct by a CMC faculty member, please see the Procedures for Student and Faculty Grievances Against Faculty Members and for Faculty Grievances Against Academic Administrators. You are also encouraged to speak to the College’s Title IX Coordinator regarding the College’s reporting options and grievance procedures.

Creating a safe campus environment is the responsibility of all members of the College community, both individually and collectively. CMC encourage all members of our community to seek support for and report all discrimination and harassment and/or sexual harassment and sexual misconduct directly to Campus Safety, the Title IX Coordinator, or the Deputy Coordinators (see below for contact information). In response to any reported discrimination, harassment, and/or sexual misconduct, the College will take all appropriate steps to eliminate the misconduct, prevent its recurrence and address its effects. The College respects the inherent dignity of all individuals involved and will carefully review and/or investigate all reports to understand the perspective and experiences of each individual, and provide for fair and impartial evaluation and resolution.

If you believe you have been subject to discrimination, harassment, and/or sexual misconduct by a student, faculty member, or staff member from one of The Claremont Colleges other than CMC, please speak with the Title IX Coordinator, one of the Deputy Coordinators or a Dean in the CMC Deans of Students office in the Heggblade Center. They will assist you in exploring your options for responding to the conduct, provide you with information about support resources, and assist you in reporting the incident to the other institution and/or the police, if you choose to do so.
